Operating at temperatures up to 750 °C, the graphite rotor vigorously agitates molten aluminum with continuous injection of argon or nitrogen. Rotational motion breaks the introduced gas into large quantities of micro-bubbles uniformly dispersed throughout the liquid aluminum. Meanwhile, rotation accelerates the diffusion of dissolved hydrogen and solid inclusions within the melt. Following gas partial-pressure difference and surface-adsorption principles, hydrogen and oxide slag are captured by the micro-bubbles. The contaminants float upwards together with bubbles to the melt surface for skimming, thus completing efficient purification of aluminum melt.
